Serenelli's Cancer Experience diary...
Choosing the Juicer
Back to index
It is not easy to become a VEGAN overnight... but this is what has happen to me for medical reasons. I was lucky that a neighbour had a little Braun juicer to get me started. The main draw back is that it looses a lot of the juice in the process. The cone shaped grinder/filter gets plugged up and the juice overflows the cone very easy. Works just fine for the occasional juice... we returned this to our lovely neighbour Addline and bought a similar one on sale for any emergency or travel.
So we are off shopping for an heavy duty one and find one at Sears... the Waring. The juice quantity is improved. The cleaning of the pulp from the cylinder is not easy... after a couple of days you realize that it is not good for everyday use. It is not good for greens. We return the unit.
In the meantime we learn more reading various Websites and discover that the speed is an important factor in preparing juice and we get the opportunity to test another machine... the Champion juicer. Very powerful indeed but not too good with certain greens. Very nice to clean. It expels pulp and juice as it works so you don't have to stop.
By this time we have also discovered that an inexpensive citrus juicer will take care of oranges, grapefruits and lemons. Poor Eileen was peeling all the oranges to fit them in the other juicers. For the task we buy a Kenmore citrus juicer.
Our final choice is... the GREEN STAR ct3000 juicer. It was not at first easy to use but when you get over the hump you will love it. It is the best for greens like grass and leaves and this is what I am going to need the most. Its low speed (110 rpm) preserve the most of the nutrients of the juice. The juicer has a lot more attachments that will allow you to make pasta and bread sticks. I did not display this parts... as I am still far from that pleasure. We sure hope that somebody else will enjoy the benefit of our research should they need one. We also know that our discovery journey is not over yet.
