Marg Pond is peacefully resting as of March 4th, 2003. I like to remember my mother-in-law as I met her during the Christmas of 1990. I only have words of love for her for the way she accepted me into her life. The Shamrock Irish Dancers will perform along with guest artists Dean Bernier and Cheryl Tradewell. There will also be several raffle items available. The is a non-profit group dedicated to the preservation of traditional Irish Dance. March 14 at 7:30pm - Slide/Lecture by Ruth Chambers, March 15 Workshop - "Science and Art" with Ruth Chambers. Ruth Chambers is an installation artist who currently uses porcelain and a range of other media to address conditions of desire, beauty, vitality, contingency and the unknown, as they are related to human imaginings of the body and utopias. She is Associate Professor and Department Head at the University of Regina, Department of Visual Art and a founding member of Petri's Quadrille Artist's Collective. Recent exhibitions include: "Giardino Segreto" (Estevan Art Gallery), "Beneath the Skin" (Art Gallery of Calgary), and "Breathing Room" (with Karilee Fulgem, Dunlop Art Gallery) as well as: "Math is a Garden", Untitled (nonfiction section) and "The Manufacture of Zero" (Petri's Quadrille, site-specific installations and performance). In the workshop, participants will explore ways art practices are informed by, critique, illustrate, extend, reflect, or comment upon the meaning of scientific knowledge and scientific world views. We will discuss examples of contemporary art in which strategies such as metaphor, illustration, narration, irony and appropriation are employed to address scientific subjects. Participants will then develop an approach of their own to a current or historical scientific topic. Participants are required to bring resource material which should include images and text illustrating the scientific concept(s) they may wish to address, materials and tools, and documentation of any of their own work which may be related to the project. The "Winter Festival Juried Art Show" is the only juried exhibition in the province that displays all the works entered for a one week period. The show is an important venue for new and emerging artists in the community and allows the gallery to feature these artists and to provide them with feedback on their work. The format includes group and individual critiques. About the Winter Festival Juror.....Morgan Wood Morgan Wood was born and raised in southern Saskatchewan, her family is from Michael Calihou Band in Alberta. She obtained her degree in Indian Art from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College in Regina. She went on to internships at the Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec and the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta. In 1997, Ms. Wood organized an "Aboriginal Curatorial Conference" for the Canada Council for the Arts, held in Ottawa, Ontario. She then went on to work as a curatorial assistant in Canadian Art at the National Gallery of Canada. Simultaneously, working as an independent, Ms. Wood curated the exhibition "Here & Now" for the Dunlop Art Gallery, Sherwood Branch in Regina. In 1999 Morgan returned to Saskatchewan to co-curate "Exposed: the Aesthetics of Aboriginal Erotic Art" with Lee-Ann Martin, at Regina's MacKenzie Art Gallery; the exhibition toured to the Ottawa Art Gallery and the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ont. Morgan Wood has most recently been awarded an Aboriginal Curatorial Residency by the Canada Council for the Arts, which she is conducting with the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon.
