index Service Clubs and Associations:
When our city was founded more than 100 years ago our police force was mounted on horseback. Since June of this year two members of our Police force, Sgt. Peter Mesluk and Cst. Brian Bonkowski, are mounted on bicycles supplied and serviced by Leisure Sports. Bicycle police are found throughout the world. Traffic jams can be a problem for police cars, while bicycles can go almost anywhere. In Prince Albert traffic jams are not common but a policeman on a bicycle is somehow more approachable. A splendid example of a healthy lifestyle these policeman are also creating a new and caring image for the police force. Each day they are actively involved with the public, talking to people, showing their equipment, while carrying out their normal police duties. Our Police are providing excellent role models for children and adults in our community and should be commended!
"People helping people - that's what friends are for". What a great slogan for SEPTEMBER, officially declared United Way Month in Prince Albert. The United Way is active in our community every day of the year - helping people, being good friends. This month befriend Prince Albert by donating generously to the United Way. All contributions remain in our community to fund support groups, special programs and services that someone in your family or someone you know use or may need one day. The 16 member groups involved include: Arthritis Society, Family Services, Mental Health Association, Institute for the Blind, Paraplegic Association, Red Cross, Seniors Transportation, Association for Community Living, St. John Ambulance, Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, VON, YMCA, Herb Bassett Home Auxiliary, Mobile Crisis Unit Sexual Assault Program and Voice of the Handicapped.
