Rosemont Art Gallery -(Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre) Regina, SK
  • Until December 5, 1998: Three Shores -- an exhibition by three Saskatchewan artists: Barbara Terfloth, Degen Lindner and Christine Lynn

Barbara Terfloth (Emma Lake artist), Degen Lindner (formerly of Prince Albert now living in Saskatoon), and Christine Lynn (Lumsden artist) explore the beauty, the opportunity, the connection to, and the escape offered by Emma Lake. Emma Lake has a place in Saskatchewan art history that begins in 1936 as a summer art camp first organized by Augustus Kenderdine (after whom the camp is now named). In its history, artists Kenneth Lochhead, Hans Hoffman, Jack Shadbolt, Barnett Newmann, and Jules Olitski and critic Clement Greenberg participated in the annual workshops at the lake. The Regina Five, Winnona Mulcaster, Dorothy Knowles and Otto Rogers are only a few of the artists who have attended and left a mark over the years.
Six decades as an artists' retreat and as a place of making art, renewing artistic energy, sharing ideas, and inspiration makes Emma Lake a strong place. Just as the land seeps into the blood of generations of farm families living and working the same soil, so Emma Lake seeps into the blood of artists who live and work in the same place as many artists before them. Offering the chance to turn off the distractions of everyday life and focus on working, Emma Lake is a vital link to the creative energies of these three artists.
Yet each takes something quite different. Connected by personal friendship, joint time spent at the art camp, and a concern for the future of the camp and the health of the lake itself, the artists venture to three different shores. The landscapes are moods and emotions, not documentations, are lingering memory, not snapshots.
